2. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They are commonly used to remember your preferences, track your activity, and improve your browsing experience.

3. Our Approach

We have chosen not to implement cookies on our website. This means:

• We do not track your browsing behavior
• We do not use analytics cookies to monitor your activity
• We do not use marketing or advertising cookies
• We do not use cookies for advertising or profiling purposes

4. Local Storage for Functional Preferences

While we don't use cookies, we do use browser local storage to remember your theme preference (light/dark mode). This is considered "strictly necessary" or "functional" storage under GDPR and ePrivacy regulations because:

• It's solely used to improve your experience by remembering your display preference
• No personal data is collected or transmitted
• The data never leaves your device
• It's not used for tracking, analytics, or marketing purposes
• Under GDPR Article 6(1)(f) and ePrivacy Directive, functional preferences like theme settings are considered legitimate interests that don't require explicit consent

The stored value is simply your color mode choice (e.g., "light", "dark", or "system") and is stored locally in your browser under the key nuxt-color-mode. You can clear this at any time through your browser's settings.

5. Third-Party Services

We don't set cookies ourselves. A few third-party services are involved in serving the site, and this is what each of them does — including the ones that set nothing, since that is the part people usually want to know:

5.1 Cloudflare

Our website is hosted on Cloudflare, which may set essential security cookies to:

• Protect against DDoS attacks and malicious bots
• Ensure website security and performance
• These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be disabled

5.2 Cloudflare Turnstile

The "Something wrong here?" form on the Console Region Checker uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell humans from bots. It loads a script from Cloudflare and looks at session-scoped signals from your browser. Cloudflare states that Turnstile sets no cookies, and it is classified as strictly necessary — without it the form would be open to automated abuse.

This loads only on that one page. No other page on the site requests it.

5.3 GIPHY (animated GIFs)

Around 37 blog posts include an animated GIF hosted by GIPHY. It's an ordinary image, but it's served from GIPHY's domain rather than ours, so your browser fetches it directly when the post loads. GIPHY therefore sees your IP address, your browser and device details, and which page you were reading. That happens on page load, not on a click.

We checked, and GIPHY sets no cookies when a GIF loads. We requested three of the GIFs actually embedded on this site and inspected the response headers: no Set-Cookie was returned by any of them. So this is a matter of GIPHY receiving a request, not of anything being stored on your device.

A post with no GIF in it makes no request to GIPHY at all.

5.4 Affiliate Links

Some links on this site are affiliate links, served through a short /r/ address that redirects you to the merchant. We set no cookie when you click one. The site you land on will set its own cookies under its own privacy policy — see our affiliate disclosure .

Although we don't use cookies, you can still control how your browser handles cookies and local storage from any website:
